The Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce will launch a Buy Black directory of black-owned small businesses Tuesday in an effort to boost sales for its members. According to the chamber, the African-American community has a buying power of $1.1 trillion. A dollar typically circulates for six hours in the black community but only 2 cents of every dollar is spent at black-owned businesses, the organization said. The directory, with more than 500 chamber members, also aims to create jobs in the community. It will be available online and in print.
