Jackson Lee: “Director Shaub’s resignation marks a sad and disturbing development that calls into question the integrity of our Government at a time when so many questions have been raised.”
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Homeland Security and Judiciary, and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, issued the following statement about the early resignation of the Director of the Office of Government Ethics:
“In yet another sign of the cloud of corruption hanging over the Trump Administration, an honest and independent broker entrusted to safeguard the American people from the abuses of rogue government officials has abruptly resigned. The departure of Walter Shaub from the Office of Government Ethics occurs amidst a series of White House ethical breaches and the Trump Administration’s ongoing efforts to skirt the law.
“Director Shaub’s resignation marks a sad and disturbing development that calls into question the integrity of our Government at a time when so many questions have been raised. That is why it is imperative that the Director’s replacement demonstrate the utmost degree of character, independence and decency to ensure that America’s best interests are protected from those who place private gain over the public good.”
