Houston police are investigating the shooting of a man at 12012 Crystalwood about 2:05 a.m. today (July 12).

The victim, Damien Taylor, 47, was transported to an area hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound to the back.

HPD Major Assaults Unit Sergeant J. Dodson and Officers A. Ferrell and A. Hernandez reported:

Officers were dispatched to a drive-by shooting call at the above address and observed Mr. Taylor being treated by HFD paramedics.

During the course of their investigation, the shooter in this case approached officers and stated he shot Taylor in self-defense during an altercation. It was determined the shooter, Sean Evans, 34, was a felon in possession of a firearm and that charge is pending against him at this time.

The investigation into the aggravated assault is ongoing.
