Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations and a Member of the House Budget Committee released the following statement about the House GOP’s 2018 budget:

“The American people deserve a budget that places the interests of children, working families and seniors ahead of the interests of greedy corporations and millionaires. But the budget introduced by Republicans in the House of Representatives protects big business and promotes tax cuts for the rich while shifting extreme burdens onto the shoulders of those who can least afford it.

“The GOP budget depletes funds from critical areas of need like education, job creation, transportation, medical research and veterans’ health services. It makes drastic cuts to health care and basic living standards, all to give the wealthy more tax breaks.

“This immoral budget takes the cruelty of Trumpcare and packages it with deep cuts that hurt hardworking families and disinvests in our country’s future. To put it simply, our nation cannot afford the Republican’s heartless agenda and the devastation it would bring to millions of American families.”
