Despite the Lack of Votes, the Fight to Defeat Trumpcare Continues

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a member of the House Budget Committee, a senior member of the House Committees on Homeland Security and Judiciary, and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, issued the following statement on the failed attempts to bring Senate Trumpcare to the floor for a vote:
“Senator McConnell’s decision to call off efforts to bring Senate Trumpcare to the floor for a vote reveals the undeniable and pathetic truth: that after seven years of hashtags and bumper stickers, Republicans have no real plan to provide affordable health care to Americans, only a cruel desire to take it away from millions.”
“Trumpcare remains unpopular and lacks the necessary support to advance through the Senate. But in a mean-spirited and desperate attempt to save face, the Senate Majority Leader and President Trump are abandoning the idea of replacing Obamacare in order to repeal the law, or in the President’s words let it “die on its own.”
“The notion of deliberately causing tens of millions of Americans to lose their health insurance is sick and obscene, but the fact that this idea would be promoted by the Commander in Chief represents a dereliction of duty and offers further evidence of his heartless and mean-spirited agenda. Rather than dismantling the Affordable Care Act, we should work to help stabilize insurance markets and make the law work better. Failure to do so places too many lives at risk.
