HOUSTON – July 20, 2017— In a celebration of girl power, some 30 area girls from underserved communities of Houston will be treated to a #YearOfJoy Wonder Woman Bowling Party from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2017 at Bowlmor Houston, 925 Bunker Hill Road (77042).

The event is sponsored by Bowlmor and Yellow Cab Houston, which is providing roundtrip transportation for the girls.

The event is all about girl power and celebrating the magic of being a girl. There will be models in Wonder Woman Cosplay sponsored by Anime Matsuri, Wonder Woman-themed face painting by Raw Party, a Just Say Cheese Photo Booth, Magic Twist balloon artist, along with spoken word performances by nationally acclaimed poet Vascola Stoney and a Writers-In-School youth scholar.

“We are looking forward to seeing the smiling faces as they arrive at the much-anticipated event,” said Yellow Cab Houston General Manager Melissa McGehee. “Every year we are approached with different sponsorship and donation opportunities; it is our pleasure to do our part in giving back to the community we serve.”

The 30 girls represent schools and programs from across the city, including Hype Freedom School and middle- and elementary-schools in the Houston Independent School District.

Many individuals and local businesses have provided in-kind and financial contributions to make the event happen. They include: What’s the Occasion Linen & Décor Rental, Lexis Florist, Paper Floral Artistry, Three Brothers Bakery, Kim Kreationz, Bobbie’s Wear, Kuztom Kreationz, Mandy Kao Foundation, Chloe Dao and the Clifford Group. The event’s playful, fun décor was created by local event planner Kali Sellars of A Swoon Event.

About #YearOfJoy: #YearOfJoy was started by Houstonian Joy Sewing as personal journey to focus on gratitude and on being more joyful. It has since grown into a community movement to spread joy to area children. In December, she hosted the #YearOfJoy Holiday Ice Skating Party for 50 boys and girls at the ICE at Discovery Green powered by Green Mountain Energy. It was sponsored by H-E-B with luxury bus transportation by Corporate Services International. The holiday event is set to take place again this December. In February, 70 girls turned out for the #YearOfJoy “Hidden Figures” movie night at iPic at River Oaks District. Guest speaker was Noreen Khan Mayberry, the world’s first NASA space toxicologist.
