The iconic statue of Sam Houston has been a focal point seen in Houston’s Hermann Park since 1925. However, one group says that it has been long enough and the statue of the once slave owner needs to be removed and not idolized. Following cities like New Orleans who have removed similar statues from their landscape, the members of Texas Antifa have started a campaign to take a stance against fascism and racism. They have also called for the removal of other memorial and landmark bearing Houston’s name. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner has not given the issue any thought and has said it is not his agenda.
