Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and a member of the Helsinki Commission promoting security and cooperation in Europe, issued the following statement surrounding today’s last night’s terrorist attack targeting Muslims in London:

“Sadly, again we see individual actors filled with intolerance and hate perpetrating terrorist attacks against innocent people. This makes international collaboration against terrorism that much more important.

“The Muslims who were run down in London after attending a prayer service for Ramadan were targeted simply because of their religious beliefs. Actions such as these cannot be tolerated in a civilized world. It is incumbent upon all elected leaders including the President of the United States to tone down the fear-stoking rhetoric that can sow the seeds for violence.

“I express my deepest sympathies and condolences over the loss of life and for those who were injured. America must be unambiguous in its condemnation of all acts of terror including those that target people because of the God to whom they pray.”
