Houston police are investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash at 7600 Bywood about 3:20 p.m. last Friday (June 16).

The male victim, 5, was transported to Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer O. Sulaiman reported:

The driver of a burgundy Chevrolet Equinox was traveling westbound at the above address. Due to the heavy amount of cars parked on both sides of the street, the driver was traveling at a slow rate of speed. The victim entered the roadway and was struck by the Chevrolet. The driver, who showed no signs of impairment, remained at the scene and was questioned and released.

A preliminary investigation indicated no crosswalks were present where the child entered the roadway.

No charges have been filed at this time, as the investigation is continuing.
