Houston – June 26, 2017 – July at the Houston Bicycle Museum will be our most ambitious month in two and a half years of operation. The month will be full of events and begins Friday, June 30, 8pm-11pm with a Sneak Preview of the Museum's first annual juried art exhibit: “The Bicycle – the Subculture, Camraderie, and Lifestyle” A call was sent out to Houston's art community for submissions in a wide variety of mediums and the only guideline was that bicycle-themed entries were preferred.
The entrants were judged by two judges: Robert Graham, a local, Houston-based sculptor, and George Nactigall. Over 40 artists from across the US submitted entries.
“We were surprised by both the variety of media submitted, the variety of expression, and the quality of art for this being the first year of this contest. There were quite a few sculptures which were of course near and dear to my heart,” said Graham.
July is about mixing the art scene into our cycling subculture, celebrating our lifestyle and camaraderie. Come meet collectors, local shops, artisans, crafters and ordinary cyclists. The festivities bring out the beautiful, the innovative, and the strange pedal-powered creations of our city. You are in for a full immersion into our world with the true fanatics who help make it all possible. Join us in July; our tribe is growing fast.
