Jackson Lee: “After being blocked by the courts over his ill-conceived Muslim ban, Trump’s attempts at repackaging cannot hide the ugly truth that this policy is un-American and unconstitutional.”
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, issued the following statement about the President’s new Muslim travel ban and executive order:
“It has now become sadly clear that a series of defeats in the courts are not enough to stop the President from his pursuit of his unconstitutional Muslim ban. His attempts at repackaging have fallen woefully short of adequately addressing the many problems and pitfalls with this un-American policy.
“The President persists despite mounting evidence to the contrary. A number of news outlets have already reported the contents of an internal memo from the Department of Homeland Security which found that citizenship was an “unlikely indicator” for terror threats within the United States. Moreover, national security experts like former CIA Counter Intelligence Officer Patrick Skinner, have called the policy “immoral and stupid,” warning it alienates people from the very region we need to enhance our fight against global terrorism.
“The President’s repackaged Muslim ban remains what it was the first time he presented the policy; a bad idea that completely contradicts the spirit what it means to be an American.”
