18 Texas Sheriffs Push for Immigrant Deportation Despite Harris County’s Resistance

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez has stopped the funding of workers who operated the Harris County Jail assisting with Immigration and Customs Enforcement according to the Houston Chronicle. However, he has said that the county will to maintains a partnership with ICE and a relationship with federal immigration authorities. Where Sheriff Gonzalez has ended the county’s contract for the section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, 18 other sheriffs have expressed an interest in starting a partnership of this type. The sheriffs support the executive order under the Trump administration that will expand the net of people ICE would deport without exempting “classes or categories of removable aliens from potential enforcement.”
