WASHINGTON – Today U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) appeared on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom to discuss former FBI Director James Comey and the ongoing bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee’s investigation on Russia. Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s appearance are below.

On the next FBI Director:

“I think the President needs to find somebody with good experience working in law enforcement, somebody of impeccable reputation and independence.”

“This was within the President's authority but it is really important, it’s absolutely essential, that we have a new FBI Director that shares the confidence, not only of the President but of Congress and the American people.”

On the ongoing bipartisan Russia investigation in the Senate Intelligence Committee:

“Clearly the bipartisan investigation of the Senate Intelligence Committee under the chairmanship of Senator Burr and the Vice Chairman Senator Warner, a Democrat – we have a bipartisan commitment to get to the bottom of this Russian investigation.”

“Nothing will change by virtue of Director Comey's termination.”

Senator John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas, is a member of the Senate Finance, Intelligence, and Judiciary Committees.
