Graduation 2017 is slated for May 20 at 11 a.m. in the Harris County Department of Education Conference Center, 6300 Irvington Blvd., Houston, Texas. The ceremony focuses on the successes of adult learners as they return to school to get their GEDs. The theme “Strife in Life” captures the personal stories from students who share their successes and struggles.

The number of participating students grows as HCDE adult learners who have gained their GEDs throughout the school year reply to take part in the popular commencement. Last year over 100 students participated.

HCDE Communications and Creative Services will be streaming Facebook Live throughout the ceremony. The commencement speaker will be Michele Paul, executive director of Capital Idea Houston. Paul is a life coach who is a popular motivational speaker.

Graduates will arrive early for photos, media interviews and networking, but the commencement is set from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
