It has been reported that 56% of the 2016 Democratic presidential primary voters were women and 25% were African American. With numbers like those why shouldn't an African American or Hispanic woman be on the 2020 Democratic Party presidential ticket?

No African American or Hispanic woman has ever been on a Democratic Party presidential ticket. This color barrier needs to be broken in 2020.

In fact, in 2020, Democrats should nominate two women for President and Vice President. Democrats should not be afraid of being too bold. If anything, 2016 should have taught everyone that the real fear should be not being bold enough.

Democrats not only have a glass ceiling to break, but also a gender color barrier to break.

No African American woman has ever served on the United States Supreme Court nor has an African American or Hispanic woman ever served as Secretary of the Treasury or Secretary of Defense.

Equal pay for equal work is not only a gender issue, it is also a racial issue. Black and Hispanic women, in far too many instances, now get paid less than what white women are currently being paid. There is both a gender and racial income and wealth gap in our nation and inside the gender pay and wealth gaps there is also a racial disparity that must be addressed.

If you believe in diversity and inclusion, you can't just talk about it, you have to be about it. You have to be willing to go out, find, lift up and support diversity. That is how inclusion really works.

Far too many people just take the lazy route and claim they just can't find qualified minority candidates (and contractors when it comes to business opportunities) for the job. That is an old excuse that needs to be laid to rest.

There are Black and Hispanic women right now in the public and private sectors who are very well qualified to be elected President in 2020 whether it be someone like Senator Kamala Harris or GM CEO Mary Barra or others.

Before President Obama, Hillary Clinton, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm was a Democratic candidate for President of the United States.
