WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee released the following statement today calling for the House Judiciary Committee to launch an impeachment inquiry into President Trump, whose campaign remains the focus of investigations surrounding Russia’s collusion and interference into the 2016 presidential election:

“After weeks of troubling revelations surrounding Trump campaign officials’ ties to Russia, the time has come for the House Judiciary Committee to investigate whether grounds exist to launch an impeachment inquiry against the President.

“An impeachment inquiry is not a rush to judgment but a rational response to check the abuse of Presidential power and attempt to uphold the rule of law. Congress has a Constitutional duty to act as a check on the Executive Branch including holding the President accountable.”
