It is Dangerous For Trump to Undermine Iran Nuclear Deal Which Threatens to Destabilize the World

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations released the following statement about reports the President intends to decertify the Iran Nuclear Agreement:
“According to published reports, the President plans to decertify the Iran Nuclear Deal next week and send it back to Congress for further review. If the accounts are accurate, Trump’s act to decertify the agreement would send a dangerous and disturbing message to the rest of the world; that America cannot be trusted to keep its word.
“The Iran Nuclear Agreement, the product of lengthy negotiations between Iran and a global coalition led by the United States, is a good deal. I along with my colleagues in Congress deliberated for months, engaging with the Obama Administration and reviewing every fine detail of the agreement. There is no doubt in my mind that moving the deal forward was the right decision to make.
“Every measure of review has shown that Iran, despite its other unacceptable activities, continues to comply with the nuclear agreement. It is reckless and wrong-minded for the White House to stoke the flames of global instability by walking away from it. Arbitrarily breaking our agreements with other nations diminishes our standing as a global leader.
“I urge the President to resist the temptation of ‘leading by campaign promise’ and exercise the one thing that do date he has seemed incapable of: sound judgment. Rather than discarding it, the Iran Nuclear Deal should be recertified and allowed to continue its success in keeping nuclear weapons out of the hands of the Iran government.”
