HOUSTON, TX – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, issued the following statement announcing the opening of a Disaster Recovery Center in northeast Houston:

“Ever since the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, I have been fighting to bring additional resources to neighborhoods impacted by the storm through the establishment of Disaster Recovery Centers. DRCs serve as a conduit linking victims of the storm with the crucial services they need.

“That is why I am pleased to announce the establishment of a Disaster Recovery Center at Tidwell Community Center, located at 9720 Spaulding Street in Northeast Houston. This DRC, which will open its doors on Friday, October 13th, 2017, will help Hurricane Harvey survivors access vital recovery services.

“These centers are needed to meet the ongoing demands of residents seeking to make their lives whole again. While Houstonians continue to confront devastation, we must also acknowledge the misery and torment of other Americans confronting natural disasters. That is why I strongly supported H.R. 2266, which provides $36.5 billion in aid to respond to the damage caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria, and the wildfires currently raging in California.

“In the coming weeks, I will continue to work closely with House and committee leadership to secure the substantial funding necessary to meet the needs of Hurricane Harvey survivors in the area of housing, community development, transportation, infrastructure, and water resource management. These are and remain the highest priorities for me and my Texas colleagues and will we not waver in this pursuit, nor falter or fail in our advocacy.”
