There is still a little time left for U.S. high schoolers to apply be one of the 100 selected for the 2018 Disney Dreamers Academy at Walt Disney World Resort – an innovative, outside-the-classroom mentoring program in partnership with Steve Harvey and Essence Magazine.
In past years, multiple Houston area students have been among the select few chosen to participate in the weekend’s workshops, talks and mentoring sessions featuring top professionals across multiple careers, Disney executives and celebrities including Steve Harvey.
Among the Houston area stand outs to participate in the program are the following two students who have gone on to chase their dreams in big ways:
Sanah Jivani
Launched international non-profit charity and self-esteem movement inspired by her own challenges with Alopecia
Class of 2015
At Disney Dreamers Academy, Sanah learned she didn’t have to limit her dreams and acquired the confidence and tools to grow her nonprofit self-esteem, Natural Day. Sanah pushed herself and her organization and has since earned the honor of giving a TEDx Youth Talk and has expanded her natural and unique beauty organization to more than 60 schools in 28 countries. Sanah attends the University of Texas at San Antonio and recently interned at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights in Washington, D.C.
Robert Jackson
Recent graduate and current master’s student at NYU who seeks to inspire other minority boys through his acting and motivational speaking
Class of 2012
Robert is a recent graduate from NYU’s prestigious Tisch School of the Arts with a degree in acting. At Disney Dreamers Academy, Robert had the opportunity to get hands-on experience and speak with professionals in a variety of career fields which ignited his passion for the performing arts. He recently used his talents to help others through his story, putting on a one-man autobiographical show in New York City with the proceeds going to charity. This fall he returns to NYU to earn a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership, Politics, and Advocacy.
Houston high schoolers ages 13-19 who want to follow in Robert and Sanah’s footsteps can apply for the program through Oct. 31, 2017 at www.disneydreamersacademy.com/be-a-dreamer/apply
