Leaders of the Gulf Coast Health Insurance Marketplace Collaborative, a group of local agencies that help Houstonians sign up for health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee will outline upcoming outreach efforts to help Houston-area residents sign up for health plans during the open enrollment period that starts Nov. 1. The collaborative will kick off its outreach efforts with a community phone bank to contact people helped in previous years. Application counselors staffing the phone bank will check if previous consumers still have health insurance, offer education on how to sign up for a health plan and alert them on the shortened enrollment period of six weeks – half the time as in prior years. Local residents needing to obtain health coverage or re-enroll in a health plan are encouraged to attend on Wednesday, Nov. 1 between 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the West End Multi-Service Center, 170 Heights Blvd.
