GALVESTON – Moody Gardens became the home of Halloween fun on Sunday, as the 20th annual Ghostly Gardens brought little ghosts and goblins from all around the area.
A crowd of over 1,000 people attended the event as kids dressed up in Halloween costumes and participated in a variety of fun activities including the popular costume contest. Free trick-or-treating was also offered at various locations throughout the complex.
“Ghostly Gardens has become such a tradition at Moody Gardens,” said Moody Gardens President and CEO John Zendt. “It’s always fantastic to see kids dressed up in their favorite Halloween costumes celebrating the holiday with fun and educational crafts and activities.”
The costume contest featured plenty of great entries, with three standouts in each age category. Fox 26 Reporter Damali Keith, Owner/Founder of the popular blog Hot in Houston Now Valerie Sweeten and Galveston Convention and Visitors Bureau Social Media Manager Sarah Alexander had the difficult task of judging the costumes. Each winner took home a prize package that included a four pack of tickets to Moody Gardens and an age-appropriate toy.
In the 3-and-under category, Mia Valderaz won as Princess Poppy. Blake Belcher was the winner among the 4-7 year olds with his impressive lion tamer costume complete with a coat and tails and stuffed lion. Donovan Sealy took home the prize in the 8-12-year-old division dressed as a toxic mutant zombie hunter.
