October 30, 2017- Houston, TX - For 17 years, The Buffalo Soldier National Museum has upheld its mission to highlight the history and tradition of America’s Buffalo Soldiers. In honor of Veterans Day on Saturday, November 11, 2017, BSNM will officially dedicate the building and perform a change of command during a grand opening celebration.
This ceremony begins at 11:30 am and is a family-friendly event that is free to the public. Guests will witness a ribbon cutting ceremony and complimentary food from top catering restaurants in Houston. The occasion will be marked by live musical performances, guided exhibit hall tours, giveaways, a vendor fair, and much more! Also, there will be live war reenactments every half hour starting at 12:30 pm until 5:00 pm.
What started out as a post-retirement project by Captain Paul Matthews, the Buffalo Soldier National Museum has now become a world-renowned history institution. The bravery of African American soldiers is vital to our country's history, and we are honored to pay tribute to the men and women of the military. From humble beginnings at 1834 Southmore Boulevard to the historic Armory built in 1925, the BSNM has grown immensely because of the steady support from veterans and the community.
"I am overwhelmingly excited about this day; after five years of being in the Armory, a massive capital campaign and three renovation Phases, we can officially say we are OPEN; all floors of the building are now open and available", said Executive Director of the Buffalo Soldier National Museum, Desmond Bertrand-Pitts.
