Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, released the following statement calling for the formation of a Special Home Crisis Team to address the needs of seniors who are victims of Hurricane Harvey:

“During this time of tremendous devastation, many seniors have been hit particularly hard. Many of them live on fixed incomes and alone, and have found it difficult to secure temporary housing including hotels.

“Therefore, I am calling for the formation of a “disaster home crisis team” that will cleanout seniors’ homes and get them on the road to recovery. We must make a special effort to provide these most vulnerable victims with the assistance they need in the aftermath of an unprecedented catastrophe.”
