Style Magazine Newswire | 9/15/2017, 10:44 a.m.
In 2014, Jamila Barefield heard the words no one ever wants to hear. “You have cancer.” She has just an examination of her colon in 2013 and doctor told her everything looked well. The thing is that the doctors only examine half of Jamila’s colon. He didn’t even look at her other half with cancerous polyps. That might have cured if treated early enough. Sadly, there were not. This began her three-year battle with colon cancer.
Throughout it all Jamila was a worthy opponent to cancer. She told Houston Style Magazine in an interview, “When you stop pushing is when cancer wins.” And boy did she push. In April 2015, she even beat cancer to the point that doctors said she was cured. However, it can back stronger and more aggressive.
Sadly on September 5, 2017, Jamila could no longer fight her cancer and she passed away with her husband and Houston Style Magazine’s sports writer Brian right by her side. Jamila was just 39-years-old.
