State Representative Shawn Thierry (D-Houston) announced that Texas Health and Human Services will launch its disaster food relief program for families impacted by Hurricane Harvey in Harris County. The Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program offers short-term food assistance benefits to families recovering from a disaster.
"Homes in District 146 were completely destroyed due to the storms and flooding of Hurricane Harvey. To date, thousands of families are still displaced, but now they are confronted with additional issues such as having access to adequate food and nutrition. Therefore, during this horrible aftermath, I have been working with the Governor's Commission to Rebuild Texas to ensure that the needs of my constituents are identified and prioritized. I also advocated to the Department of Health & Human Services to request that a D-SNAP location be opened that is conveniently accessible to my constituents. Today, I am pleased to announce that beginning this Friday, September 22nd, a D-SNAP site will be placed in the Southwest section of Houston, along with two other sites in Harris County." stated Rep.
