Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, released the following statement on the mass shooting at Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in Tennessee:
“Today, we witnesses yet another senseless act of gun violence at a place of worship. Tragically, the mass shooting at the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in Tennessee left one person dead and several others badly injured, including the church Pastor and his wife.
“While we pray for the families left devastated by this vicious attack and for the victims who are still recovering from their injuries, we must also accept some responsibility for failing to enact common-sense gun control. Congress must act now to stem the tide of the gun violence that is tearing apart families and communities across America.
“Too many lives have been lost for us to continue to sit back and do nothing. The American people deserve better.”
