September 25, 2017 (Houston, Texas) – On Friday, October 27, 2017, The John P. McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Science invites Houstonians to celebrate and toast to its educational programming in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) at its largest fundraiser of the year, Cheers to Your Health: STEAMPunk. The Texas Medical Center member institution is Houston’s most interactive science learning center and the only Smithsonian Affiliate in the Houston Museum District, and this year celebrates its 21st anniversary as the most visited museum of its kind in the nation.

Cheers to Your Health: STEAMPunk will take place at The Health Museum, located at 1515 Hermann Drive, Houston, Texas, 77004, on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature an evening of libations and savory culinary treats from local eateries, restaurants, and farmer’s markets. The event also will explore the technology of wines, tonics and potions.

“We are excited to host this creative event that supports our continued commitment to STEAM education for all ages,” said Dr. Melanie Johnson, President and CEO of The Health Museum.

“Attendees can expect a lively evening of exploration and entertainment as ‘Cheers to Your Health: STEAMPunk’ will provide an unexpected and inspiring look at our mission to foster wonder and curiosity about health, medical science and the human body.”

Since first opening its doors in 1996, The Health Museum has welcomed well more than 2.6 million guests and served thousands of local youth through its educational programming, including hands-on Summer and Fall Discovery Camps, its annual Faces of Innovation: Global Teen Summit, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts activities, school field trips, as well as through its permanent and traveling exhibitions.

Proceeds raised during the event will support all STEAM programming available for families and youth at The Health Museum. Individual tickets are available from $175, and table sponsorships range from $2,500 to $5,000.

Mr. William S. Gilmer, MD will serve as the Event Chair. The popular online website, Yelp is a sponsor of the event.
