Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, released the following statement about the resignation of Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price:
“In the months since his confirmation, HHS Secretary Tom Price, a former Chairman of the House Budget Committee and self-described fiscal conservative, amassed travel expenses in excess of $1 million, paid for by the American taxpayer. His egregious abuses of the public trust are disgraceful and without justification, and are part of a disturbing pattern of similar misconduct by other high-ranking White House officials.
“Price’s departure makes his the shortest tenure of any secretary in the history of HHS. While I welcome his resignation, I believe it should be a prelude to future departures by members of the Trump Administration who have misspent taxpayer dollars for their own personal gain. It is also my hope that the next HHS Secretary will abandon the White House’s mean-spirited efforts to sabotage the Affordable Care Act, and commit to working with Democrats to stabilize the ACA so that more Americans can enjoy the health care they deserve.”
