HARRIS COUNTY – Former Sheriff Adrian Garcia, candidate for County Commissioner Precinct 2, issued the following statement today:
Friends, Family, Comunidad -
It is with a heavy heart that I share the unfortunate news of our First Lady Barbara Bush's passing. Monica and I are deeply saddened by the passing of such a warm public figure and friend.
Mrs. Bush graciously served as the Second and First Lady of our nation and advanced so many of the beliefs and values we cherish in the Houston region.
Through her service as First Lady, Barbara Bush helped expand literacy around the world and across our country, founding the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. She acted on her belief that literacy will improve and empower every community, and ensure a secure and prosperous future for our families – a belief I share with her.
Barbara Bush's steadfast belief in our Texas values - faith, family and community – are the same as mine, truly the essence of our common value in public service.
I hope that you join me in sharing our thoughts and prayers for Mrs. Bush and the entire Bush family. I look forward to continuing Barbara Bush's inspiration to empower all our communities.
May God keep her.
With gratitude,
Adrian Garcia
