Today, Harris County Judge Randy Wilson denied the request from the Houston Police Officer's Union to delay the implementation of Proposition B. This ruling comes days later after Council Member Dwight Boykins' recommendation of a garbage fee to generate a new revenue source.

As a member of the Fiscal and Budget Affairs Committee, Council Member Boykins is actively looking for ways to resolve the budget deficit of implementing this proposition while remaining true to his fiscal management responsibilities. On November 6, 2.3 million Houstonians voted on Proposition B, with 292,000 voting in favor in comparison to the remaining 201,000 voting against it. That's a 60 to 40 percent margin in favor of pay parity.

This vote requires that we do what is best for the residents of the city of Houston and offer suggestions until we find a resolution. That resolution should not lead to a layoff of public safety and municipal workers. We must be proactive with this situation and place the people of Houston before ourselves.
