HOUSTON — HMSHost Foundation granted $40,000 to Greater Houston Community Foundation to support the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. HMSHost Vice President of Business Development Anthony Alessi presented the grant to Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner on Thursday on behalf of HMSHost Foundation with HMSHost’s partner, Cindy Clifford, Managing Partner of The Houston 8 Team, LLC.

“HMSHost Foundation is honored to help Houston residents create stability by supporting the Greater Houston Community Foundation,” said HMSHost Foundation President Paul Mamalian. “We are committed to the Houston community and this grant is part of how HMSHost Foundation aims to ensure the City remains a thriving place to live and work.”

The Greater Houston Community Foundation is dedicated to expanding philanthropic impact in Houston and its Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund continues to carry out ongoing relief efforts for the city. Mayor Turner and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett established this fund shortly after the storm, garnering over $112 million to date. The fund’s Phase Two Needs Assessment concludes efforts focusing on utility repair and financial assistance for Houston’s most vulnerable populations remain critical recovery needs.

Virtually all Houstonites felt the effects of Hurricane Harvey, including roughly 50 HMSHost associates at George Bush Houston Intercontinental Airport and Houston Hobby International Airport. During the storm, a team of over 20 HMSHost associates displayed strong commitment to Houston by volunteering to work through the storm, serving food to essential airport personnel and humanitarian flight passengers.

To broaden the impact of relief efforts in Houston after Hurricane Harvey, HMSHost Foundation also granted $5,000 to World Central Kitchen and $5,000 to Houston Airport Interfaith Chapels. HMSHost’s Senior Director of Operations Mark Young at George Bush Intercontinental Airport sits on the board for Interfaith Chapel and is on the subcommittee for Hurricane Harvey relief.

Other ongoing HMSHost community involvement in Houston includes food donations to local food pantry organization, Hearts Reaching Out.
