A special City Council Meeting was called by Council Members Brenda Stardig, Greg Travis, Michael Kubosh, Martha Castex-Tatum, and Dwight Boykins to hear a resolution for Mayor Turner to honor petitions signed by Houstonians and certified by the City Secretary.

“State law allows for the people to seek charter amendments by going directly to the voters with a petition,” said Council Member Brenda Stardig. “My responsibility as part of the governing body is to honor this process. I encourage everyone to be informed voters by studying the proposal.”

Although a quorum was not reached, Council Member Stardig appreciates the council members who attended the meeting including Council Members Greg Travis, Michael Kubosh, Dwight Boykins, Steve Le, Dave Martin, and Mike Knox.

Sec. 9004 of the Texas Local Government Code allows for qualified voters in the municipality to submit a petition to seek a charter amendment. If they meet the required number of signatures, the “governing body shall submit a proposed charter amendment to the voters for their approval at an election.”
