Macy’s has remained committed to strengthening the Houston, TX community following the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. On Friday, July 27, Macy’s continues its partnership with Team Rubicon for Houston Rebuild, a long-term recovery program created to rebuild 100 homes affected by Hurricane Harvey. Fifty Macy’s employees and volunteers will unite with Team Rubicon across three home worksites to assist in rebuilding in a variety of ways, including painting, dry wall finishing, installing insulation and more.

One home in particular belongs to Houston native Ramon. After living on his own, Ramon moved back into his childhood home on Crosby Street to care for his mother when she was diagnosed with cancer. Hurricane Harvey caused much devastation to their home, but with the help of Houston Rebuild and Macy’s volunteers it’s close to restoration.

The damage caused by Hurricane Harvey was extensive and wide-reaching with estimates showing more than 100,000 families were impacted. Team Rubicon’s rebuilding efforts are provided free of charge and focus on low to moderate-income families to make the greatest impact possible.

Additionally, through Macy’s disaster relief campaigns, customers and employees have given nearly $2 million to the American Red Cross and $1 million to the United Way of Houston to support hurricane relief efforts last year. Macy’s will continue to work with the Houston community to identify meaningful ways to support our neighbors and friends impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

Earlier this month, in the spirit of the Fourth of July, Macy’s encouraged customers to give back to America’s veterans and military families with a special fundraising event – “The Big Give Back - Macy’s Salutes Those Who Serve.” A total of $2 million was raised to and will benefit three national nonprofits, including Team Rubicon, that support and empower veterans and military families to be leaders, team builders and problem solvers in their local communities.

Team Rubicon empowers veterans to give back to their communities through skills-based volunteering to support disaster relief and rebuild communities. Funding from this campaign will mobilize veteran volunteers to provide assistance to vulnerable populations whenever and wherever disaster strikes.
