HOUSTON - Mayor Sylvester Turner encourages city of Houston teens to attend one of the Youth Poetry Workshops being hosted through March by Houston Poet Laureate Deborah ‘D.E.E.P.’ Mouton.

"It's good for our young to learn the poetic tongue," the mayor said.

The workshops are designed for middle and high school students. Through poetry, participants will get to explore a variety of topics with one of the nation’s leading creative voices.

The Houston Poet Laureate Youth Poetry Workshops are part of the mayor's Complete Communities program to strengthen underserved neighborhoods.
