Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a Senior Member of the House Committees on Judiciary, Homeland Security, and Budget, and the Ranking Member on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, announced that the National Institute on Aging has awarded grants to fund the Aging Research Program at the University of Houston:
“The University of Houston is a world-class research institution, which boasts a premier College of Pharmacy. The College of Pharmacy undertakes extensive research to understand the pivotal role the kidney has in maintaining equilibrium and balance within the body, and subsequent body fluid volume and blood pressure. I am proud to announce that the College of Pharmacy has been awarded $459,000 in funds, for which I advocated. This crucial grant project, which is funded through 2021, will research the role of Nrf2 in aging kidney functions. The research will further strengthen the understanding of the role of the kidney, and the underlying mechanisms involved in causing high blood pressure in aging.”
