Attendees at the three-day Preserving Communities of Color (PCOC) conference held in Houston over the weekend explored the social, institutional and economic changes that impact communities of color across the nation. Several panel discussions, workshops and keynote speakers allowed historians, architects, preservationists, students and the general public to gather insights on how to revitalize underserved, historic communities of color while ensuring longtime community members don’t end up priced out according to the Houston Chronicle. The conference held in Houston’s historic Third Ward allowed for a greater conversation to be had about recommendations from the 2017 conference and plans to implement unified goals.
