HOUSTON -Mayor Sylvester Turner and the City of Houston Planning & Development Department are pleased to announce the launch of Complete Communities University, an array of workshops and resources designed to better enable residents of the five Complete Communities neighborhoods to move their communities forward.

The University will convene for a half-day conference on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Learning Development Center, 4501 Leeland Street, Houston. Mayor Turner will make closing remarks.

Workshop topics on Saturday include: Fundraising, Community Outreach, Conflict Resolution, Running Effective Meetings and Census 2020.

Complete Communities was launched by Mayor Turner in April 2017 to strengthen Houston’s under-resourced neighborhoods. Starting with pilot programs in Acres Home, Third Ward, Near Northside, Gulfton and Second Ward, Complete Communities is about making improvements so that all of Houston’s residents and business owners can have access to quality services and amenities.

“Over the past year and a half, the leadership from the five pilot communities have worked very hard to develop action plans for their communities,” the mayor said. “Complete Communities University was created to ensure that these communities are equipped to implement the ambitious goals, hopes and aspirations laid out in their action plans.”

Complete Communities University is also open to civic leaders such as Super Neighborhood Council members.
