BakerRipley, Chevron Corporation and The Fab Foundation, are bringing innovation to East Aldine with the unveiling of Fab Lab Houston. Fab Lab Houston at the BakerRipley East Aldine Campus is a unique hub for advancing STEM education and entrepreneurship with hands-on projects.

Fab Lab Houston will feature state-of-the-art design and fabrication equipment, such as laser cutters, 3D printers, vinyl cutters and milling machines, which will give students and the broader community access to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) resources and help build the skills and experience needed to succeed in STEM fields. Users will be able to make almost anything- from furniture to robots. The Fab Lab will promote innovation and design in the community and will build the local workforce capacity.

Projections indicate that 70 percent of all jobs created in the next decade will require some STEM competency, with STEM occupations growing almost twice as fast as non-STEM occupations.

The new Fab Lab Houston is the result of collaboration between BakerRipley and Chevron to bring to Houston the 10th Fab Lab of its kind in the United States – and the first Fab Lab by Chevron in Houston. Chevron’s investment of $1.3 million dollars, also includes a mobile Fab Lab outfitted with much of the same equipment as the stationary lab, that will make this innovation more accessible to other Houston communities.

The event will occur at BakerRipley East Aldine Campus, 3000 Aldine Mail Route, Houston, TX 77039 on Tuesday, September 18th from 10:00 a.m. – 12 p.m.
