In recognition of National Rail Safety Week, Union Pacific Railroad is joining its community partners across the state to promote rail safety for drivers and pedestrians. Media representatives are invited to ride in the cab of a locomotive with Union Pacific Police and local law enforcement officers, while they observe motorists’ behavior at railroad grade crossings.

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT: Freight trains traveling 55 miles per hour take more than a mile to stop, which is why drivers are urged to stop in designated areas when railroad signals, flashers and gates indicate a train is approaching. For more information and safety tips, please visit www.up.com/aboutus/community/safety.

Union Pacific will be promoting National Rail Safety Week across its entire digital platform, including social media channels and its website. Additionally, Union Pacific will hold special events in numerous communities allowing direct contact between the railroad and the public. Members of the media are invited and encouraged to attend.

The following events are scheduled for your area. The Media Contact listed can provide additional details for the event or activity and background information regarding rail safety.

9/25/2018 Houston S. Post 7:00 a.m.

9/26/2018 Missouri City Cravens and S. Gessner 7:00 a.m.

For safety reasons, anyone planning to ride in the cab of the locomotive must wear pants (no shorts) and closed-toe shoes with a low, defined heel – no tennis shoes or high heels, please! Persons without proper footwear will not be allowed to ride. Casual dress is recommended.
