Reynolds Files the Paid Sick Leave Act
Style Magazine Newswire | 4/23/2019, 12:44 p.m.
Paid sick time is essential to Texans' economic security. Nearly forty percent of private sector workers and nearly eighty percent of the lowest-income workers do not have any paid sick time. Some workers that have paid sick time are penalized for using it or cannot use this time to care for sick family members. Absences can result in job loss which can devastate a family.
Additionally, it is important that paid time off is accessible for the one in four women who report physical or sexual abuse at some point in their lives. Without paid sick and safe days, women are in grave danger of losing their jobs, which can be particularly damaging for survivors of domestic violence. With the 10th largest economy in the world, it's unconscionable for Texans to have to choose between their health and their livelihood.
This is why I filed HB 3410, The Paid Sick Leave Act.
Allowing workers to prioritize the health care and safety needs of their families will create a more productive workforce. HB 3410 will protect and promote the health, safety, welfare and economic condition of all working Texans by ensuring paid sick leave.
Your voices have been heard and your concerns are being addressed. This bill is the next step in the fight. Urge your representatives to vote in favor of HB 3410!
