Airbag Recall Safety Campaign, Chequee Su Vehículo, Launches in Houston

HOUSTON – A new safety campaign, Chequee Su Vehículo, is urging all drivers to check if their cars contain recalled airbags.

The fully bilingual campaign focuses on the Latino market, including Houston, where more than 420,000 cars are on the recall list. The cars, which include more than 15 years’ worth of makes and models, may contain recalled Takata airbag inflators. When exposed to high humidity or a minor accident, the recalled airbags might explode, sending dangerous metal pieces flying toward vehicle occupants.

Airbag replacement is provided for free from the original manufacturer, regardless of where the car was purchased or its warranty status. The airbag recall outreach effort includes educational materials, media interviews, and community events with businesses, clubs, and churches who can help urge drivers to check if their car is on the airbag recall list.
