Students and their families from across Greater Houston will have a rare opportunity Thursday to meet their elected officials in Austin, showcase their latest school projects and share their stories about attending charter schools in their community.

Every two years, “Harmony on the Hill” brings Harmony Public School students from Houston, Katy, Sugar Land, Cypress and other campuses across Texas for a day of fun and civics at the state capitol in Austin. Harmony students will begin the day with a takeover of the rotunda, where they will demonstrate some of their latest STEM-focused projects, including 3D prosthetic hands, heart dissections and a variety of robots. Then, throughout the day, students and their families will have sit-down office visits with their hometown officials.

Select students will also serve as official House and Senate pages throughout the day. The school system will also be recognized in four separate resolutions read on the House floor.

Harmony Public Schools is a Texas-born, Texas-wide charter public school system offering a free public education focused on STEM and Character Education to PreK-Grade 12 students at 56 campuses statewide. In August, the TEA awarded the Harmony Public School system six “A” ratings in its annual Accountability Ratings.
