Washington, DC - Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary, Homeland Security, and Budget, issued this statement on the passing of Dr. Mendelsohn:

“I was very saddened to hear of the death of Dr. John Mendelsohn, the pioneering cancer specialist and former President of the MD Cancer Center in Houston. Throughout Mendelsohn’s long and successful career, he rose to prominence as one of the world’s foremost leaders in the realm of cancer research, helping pioneer a new form of cancer therapy, as well as becoming the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s third president. When he stepped down from this position in Summer 2018, he was honored as the Center’s first President Emeritus.”
