HISD District IV Candidate is Off to a Strong Start

HOUSTON - JULY 15, 2019 - The Matt Barnes for HISD Campaign announced that it raised $18,246 for its first campaign finance report for Houston Independent School District, District IV. This comes shortly after he threw his name in the race in mid- June.
“I’m truly humbled by the amount of support I’ve received over the last few weeks,” said Barnes. “People are ready to see a change in our school system to ensure HISD students receive an excellent education and I’m ready to work in achieving that.”
Matt Barnes announced his candidacy on June 10 and outreach of support began flooding in. The campaign finance filing will reflect what Barnes raised during the month of June.
“Matt Barnes will make a tremendous School Board Trustee,” said Lionel Jellins, campaign treasurer. “Matt understands the issues and knows what it will take to ensure HISD students are prepared for the future.”
Barnes has more than 20 years of experience working in education from Pre-K to university. He’s served on numerous boards in healthcare, social services and education including Truman University, HISD Energy Institute High School and BakerRipley Head Start/Early Start system. Barnes is a proven leader who continues to advocate for students and parents across Houston.
