Washington, DC – On this day Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on the Judiciary, Homeland Security, and Budget, released this statement regarding the mass shooting that occurred at a Walmart in Southaven, Mississippi.

“It is with great sadness that we witness another act of senseless gun violence in the span of two days-this time in Southaven, Mississippi. I extend my heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families and loved ones of the two fallen individuals. I also pray for the speedy and full recovery of those in critical condition, and that all affected by this tragic incident gain the support they need. Furthermore, I commend the first responders and law enforcement who acted swiftly and with bravery. The easy access to guns have contributed to 248 mass shootings in 2019. This number is unacceptable and I promise my dedication to fight for regulation of these deadly weapons. I stand by the American people and the fight for our safety.”
