For 5 years, SAFE Diversity Communities raise funds for students with a wide-range of disabilities (unique abilities) in efforts to assist them with gaining scholarships for college. Through their mission, SAFE Diversity has been able to produce college-ready students and successfully collaborate with several school districts who believes in the program's abilities. Their 5th Annual Blue Carpet Scholarship Award Gala represents momentous achievement through out the years. S.A.F.E. Stands For: Students And Family Empowerment, a focus that is near and dear to Founder Thelma Scott, affectionally known as Mama or Mi'Mi to the community. "I wanted to create a safe haven for those who battle depression and who are experiencing tough barriers in life," says Thelma.

Mrs. Scott is a 3-time suicide and breast-cancer survivor who is not a stranger to the community, Texas governor or even the White House for her amazing accomplishments as a leader. She has received countless awards for her commitment to making a difference in Houston and most importantly to our next generation. The diversity and inclusion activist newest platform on Radio DaBang 99.5FM is growing its listeners as they discuss trending and vital topics concerning 'embracing diversity'. Every fourth Monday from 12:00pm-1:00pm you can tune in with Mrs. Scott and Co-Host Attorney Leona Filis as they advocate for equality.

Through SAFE Diversity, students are nurtured and supported to expand their capabilities in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (S.T.E.A.M.) programs. In addition, even after the student is enrolled successfully in college, the organization makes an effort to follow them along their higher education journey.

Thelma Scott and SAFE Diversity are committed to sparking a change within our next generation. Are you ready to help?

The Gala takes place on Friday, May 3, 2019 from 6:30pm-9pm at the DoubleTree Hotel By Hilton (15747 John F Kennedy Blvd, Houston, TX 77032).

The SAFE Diversity Communities is a 501(c) 3 (75 - 0587180) Non-Profit organization that focuses on stopping the stigma of bullying, reducing the dropout and suicide rate for at-risk high school students with disabilities who are emotionally and mentally challenged. We encourage empowerment by equipping them to become self-sufficient, discover their maximum potential and achieve their academic goals.
