Nampa, Idaho (KITV) -- Not all heroes wear capes.

For senior and severely ill dogs in Idaho and neighboring states, their hero is a Nampa woman named Kimberly Coonis.

With 16 years working with elderly people, Kimberly noticed that it was her patient's beloved pets left behind with nowhere to go. Those pets were often taken to shelters or euthanized for being "too old" or "too sick". A natural caregiver and animal lover, Kimberly saw an opportunity to take those dogs and make what was left in their life comfortable.

The Coonis family lives in Nampa and where they run Furever Haus. Furever Haus accepts all elderly or severely ill dogs and with the help of donors are able to support their basic and medical needs.

With almost a dozen dogs hanging around the house, because of their conditions, Kimberly and her family have to say a lot of goodbyes. But death doesn't deter this family from doing what they do.

"To me, it's about the warmth of just being in their life and being able to help them and hold them when they cross over instead of being alone," Coonis said.
