Houston-area COVID-19 Testing Sites:

People with COVID-19 symptoms should first contact their family doctor about testing. This list of COVID-19 testing sites in the Houston area is not extensive and only includes “mass” testing sites.

Community Based Testing Sites:

The Houston Health Department and local medical community, including members of the Texas Medical Center, operate free COVID-19 drive-thru testing sites for high-risk symptomatic people.

Symptomatic people can visit ReadyHarris.org to use an online screening tool or call the Houston Health Department’s COVID-19 call center at 832-393-4220 to be screened. People who meet testing criteria will receive a unique identification code and instructions on where to go for testing.

The site only accepts people with a unique identification code obtained through the screening process. Those who show up without an identification code will not get tested.

Current Locations:

United Memorial Medical Center offers free COVID-19 drive-thru testing for high-risk people who register for pre-screening at ummcscreening.com or call 281-618-8500. People who are eligible will be directed to a local drive-thru testing site.

Legacy Community Health offers COVID-19 testing for symptomatic people determined to be at-risk. People may visit legacycommunityhealth.org or call 832-548-5000 to be screened. Legacy offers testing on a sliding fee scale, and the clinic bills insurance companies for those who are covered.

Forest Brook Middle School, located at 7525 Tidwell Rd. pre-screening is not required to be tested at this site.

The Harris County Stay Home, Work Safe order set to expire on Friday, April 3, is now extended through April 30, 2020.

-Essential businesses can remain open. The Stay Home, Work Safe Order exempts essential workers covered in 16 CISA categories. The list of critical businesses can be found here.

-Individuals are advised to stay home unless they need to leave their residence to perform "Essential Activities."

While COVID-19 is a new respiratory virus, daily precautions recommended to prevent respiratory illnesses are the same:

Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. -Use hand sanitizer when you can't wash your hands.

-Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

-Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue and throw the tissue away. If you don't have a tissue, use the elbow of your sleeve. Don't use your hands to cover coughs and sneezes.

-Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Stay home when you are sick and keep children home when they are sick.

-Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

-Get a flu shot. (Although the flu shot does not protect against COVID-19, it is flu season.)

Human coronaviruses most commonly spread from an infected person to others through:

-Respiratory droplets released into the air by coughing and sneezing.

-Close personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands.

-Touching an object or surface with the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes before washing your hands.

In response to the challenge of essential workers finding child care, the Mayor's Office, including the Mayor's Office of Education and the Mayor's Office of Resilience, partnered with the Houston Endowment and the Harris County Judge's office to develop a child care solution during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Essential workers can register for child care and for financial support online at FindChildCareNow.org.

All essential workers, including all City of Houston and Harris County employees, with children aged 0-12 are eligible to participate on a first come, first served basis. Once a family selects a center and their enrollment is confirmed, care can begin immediately.

Essential workers are those identified by the State or local jurisdiction essential to continued critical infrastructure viability.

There are three assistance options for essential workers: Those who need child care now, those who need child care and financial assistance, and those who already have child care in the community but need financial assistance.

Our office is open, please call us at 832-393-3009 if you have any questions or concerns, or email us at districtb@houstontx.gov
