On Thursday, April 16, 2020, Congressman Al Green, Fort Bend County Judge KP George, Missouri City Mayor Yolanda Ford, and Stafford Mayor Leonard Scarcella hosted a personal protective equipment (PPE) donation drive. They released the following statement:

“Our frontline medical professionals and first responders need an ample supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) to continue combatting the COVID-19 crisis. These individuals have gone above and beyond the call of duty during this unprecedented pandemic,” Congressman Green noted. “I have repeatedly encouraged any person or entity with unused PPE available to contact my congressional office to get the equipment in the right hands.”

Congressman Green has previously facilitated the delivery of N95 masks, surgical/procedural masks, sterile gloves, and disinfectant from various entities to City of Houston health officials and Fort Bend County health officials.

Green added, “This donation drive was the collaborative effort of three levels of government – federal, county, and city. I must thank Judge George, Mayor Ford, and Mayor Scarcella not only for their teamwork in hosting this donation drive but also for their consistent leadership during this global health emergency. A special thank you goes to Project C.U.R.E. for providing on-the-ground assistance by training staff and helping us receive donations safely. Finally, I must also express my sincere gratitude to every person that made a contribution at our PPE donation drive. Each donation – whether large or small – will make a difference to those on the front lines of defeating COVID-19.”

“Even during a worldwide pandemic, the Fort Bend community comes together to protect our first responders and medical staff against our invisible enemy,” said County Judge KP George. “We need everyone’s help to defeat the novel coronavirus. If you have any unopened personal protective equipment, this is your time to step up and serve your community. There is simply too much at stake.”

“This initiative is being held to assure that our first responders have the essential resources needed to continue to safeguard and serve citizens and stakeholders during the coronavirus pandemic,” said Missouri City Mayor Yolanda Ford. “We are grateful for the continued support of our residents and local businesses and are working to continue providing excellent customer service to the community during this challenging time.”

At the conclusion of the event, there will be a special donation to the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center of 30,000 surgical masks and 1,000 protective cover-all suits from the Houston Chinese American Coalition led by the Sino Professionals Association.

Eileen Huang of the Sino Professionals Association stated, “Today, a large donation including 30,000 surgical masks and 1,000 protective suits from Houston Chinese American Coalition led by Sino Professionals Association was made to the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Houston Chinese American Coalition includes several local Chinese nonprofit organizations and corporations. Special thanks to Advanced Healthcare Professionals, Inc., and Douson Control Products, Inc., for their large contribution. Prior to this donation, Houston Chinese American Coalition has donated 95,000 medical items including N95, KN95, and surgical masks, isolation gowns, and face shields. Thanks to all the healthcare practitioners for their heroic service and dedication during this challenging time in our history as well as everyone who puts him or herself in danger every day to keep our life moving forward as best as possible in this crisis.”
