On Saturday, April 18, 2020, Congressman Al Green joined Houston Independent School District (HISD) Interim Superintendent Dr. Grenita Lathan in distributing free curbside meals to students and families. Congressman Green released the following statement:

“I am proud to join HISD Superintendent Dr. Lathan and the dedicated unsung heroes on the frontline of the district’s food distribution process in giving free meals to students and families at NRG Stadium in the Ninth Congressional District. With Governor Abbott’s extension of school closures throughout the remainder of the schoolyear, expanding free nutrition service programs will be essential to Texas students and families in need,” Congressman Al Green stated. Green attended the first mass food distribution at NRG Stadium hosted by HISD in partnership with the Houston Food Bank.

He added, “This unprecedented global health crisis has caused many communities as well as individuals across the length and breadth of our nation to unite to flatten the curve and defeat coronavirus in whatever way they can. The partnership between HISD and Houston Food Bank to offer meals to HISD students and families on Saturdays at NRG is evidence of this phenomenon.”

The mass food distribution at NRG Stadium will take place on Saturdays from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. For more information, visit https://www.houstonisd.org/nutritionservices.
